A man was sentenced to jail for defacing recruitment posters for the Russian Army. On December 10, the authorities announced that a guy from Zheleznogorsk, Siberia, who is 39 years old, was found guilty of vandalising thirteen Russian military recruitment posters and received a sentence of three years in prison accordingly.
Enlistment in the Russian military was encouraged through the use of posters. It was determined that the individual was responsible for "discrediting" the Russian military forces, which is a charge that is increasingly being used to stifle dissent to the conflict in Ukraine. The authorities characterised his activities as "deliberate and intentional" in their description of them.
The arrest of individuals in Russia on allegations such as treason, sabotage, and extremism is on the rise, and this particular instance is a part of a wider trend. Despite the fact that the crisis in Ukraine is getting close to its third year, public campaigns are still going on to encourage people to join the military by offering financial incentives.
